HUNDRED DAYS

Book by The Bengsons & Sarah Gancher
Music & Lyrics by The Bengsons
Directed by Anne Kauffman
Movement Direction by Sonya Tayeh

A luminous musical memoir that celebrates and laments the elusive radiance of a shared life. The Bengsons offer luminous hope that a new generation of talent is taking up Stephen Sondheim’s mantle of exquisite ambivalence.

When I first saw Hundred Days at Z Space in San Francisco in 2014 I immediately fell in love with its creators and stars, Abigail & Shaun Bengson (though, frankly, that’s how most people feel when they meet Abigail & Shaun). I produced the piece alongside Greg Nobile & Jana Shea of Seaview Productions (Broadway’s Sea Wall/A Life and Slave Play).  [Incidentally, Hundred Days had its second developmental production at the Know Theatre in Cincinnati in 2015 and Greg Nobile and I - two New Yorkers - literally bumped into each other pre-show at a restaurant in Cincinnati on a random Tuesday. Thus our partnership was formed, over a glass a wine.]

The production ran as part of the Public Theater's Under the Radar Festival in Jan 2017 (critics' pick review #1); then opened at New York Theatre Workshop that Fall (critics' pick review #2), garnering 2018 Lucille Lortel & Drama League Nominations for Outstanding Musical; and finally - the following year - we launched a National Tour at La Jolla Playhouse.
